Power Flow Control Smartwires Project at this 400kV Substation

Force Contracting Services were awarded the contract for supplying management and construction delivery for National Grid’s – Power Flow Control Smartwires Project at Salthome 400kV Substation.

July 2020

Omexom appointed FCS to oversee and deliver all aspects of constructing High Voltage Equipment piled foundation bases.

FCS Civils team getting ready to install concrete screed rails in readiness for concrete blinding for large gantry bases.

Late July

Concrete bases completed for receiving new gantry, piling activities being completed for new smartwires equipment.

End of August

Foundation installation making good progress across site. FCS contracted to install 400 piles and build 94 bases in 14 weeks

Mid September

Significant progress in constructing bases in readiness for the HV build due to start imminently. Concrete works 75% completed.

Early October

FCS completing some final base pours using concrete pump for better efficiencies. Omexom commenced HV build on the Southern elevation of site.

Late October

FCS civils work in the final stages, Omexom now taking over the site installing HV equipment ready for a National Grid completion HVSCC on the 18th Nov 2020.
